Zelma Long is firmly established in the top five of great Californian winemakers. After completing a PhD in oenology at Davis University she worked as an oenological advisor for Robert Mondavi, going on to direct his winery from 1973 to 1979. She then spent 20 years working first for Simi Winery and then Chandon Estates, until in 2000 she embarked on a new career as an international oenological adviser to estates from Argentina to Israel. Throughout her career Zelma has been closely involved with various associations and has continued to publish regularly. She has won countless awards and distinctions over the years, being named Californian Wine Pioneer in 1993 and Woman of the Year by Women for Winesense in 1995. Zelma also has two vineyards of her own, one in California and another in South Africa. She has made numerous visits to Château d’Arsac and each time we have been impressed by her scientific rigour, precision and drive to create nothing but the best!
