Stéphane Derenoncourt
Cuvée n°4 - The Self Made Man

 

Stéphane Derenoncourt was born in northern France, in 1963, he is known for his exceptional understanding of terroir.

He came to Bordeaux hitchhiking and picked his first vintage in Fronsac in 82. He then worked in the cellars of Pavie MacQuin. From there, things started to move on for Stéphane.

Comte Stephan Von Neipperg asked Stéphane Derenoncourt to take over as the winemaker at Canon La Gaffeliere seeing his great winemaking potential and Derenoncourt made a great wine there in 1993 a very tough vintage in the region.

In 1997 Stephane Derenoncourt started consulting with other chateaux owners to improve their wines. He now manages many estates and watches over some of the best wines of Bordeaux.

Derenoncourt is now considered by many as the most sensitive winemaker in the whole of Bordeaux. He is a fervent partisan of little intervention in the vine to give the nature the opportunity to express its best potential.
He is working to achieve his ultimate goal of the vine regulating itself with minimal human intervention.
