Saison 8 - The Optimist

Born in a village located in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa, Ntsiki Biyela’s perseverance (she studied at the oenology institute of Stellenbosch) helped hoist her all the way to the top ranks of the winemaker profession, which is particularly closed and often reserved for men. Hired in 2004 as winemaker for the boutique winery of the Stellekaya estate, located a stone’s throw away from Cape Town, Ntsiki Biyela blends her wines drawing inspiration from the French savoir-faire for vintage wines. Awarded the Woman Winemaker of the Year Award in 2009, Ntsiki Biyela made her mark by creating the first vintage wine of the Stellenbosch estate whilst energetically flying the flag for South African wine. Ms. Biyela is now recognised by her peers and cited as an example to the younger generation who perceives her as a strong symbol of success in her country.
